The Big Hole River - 2007 Fly Fishing River Reports

  • Big Hole River as of 6/1/2007 – After a brief shot of winter weather last week, the Big Hole is on the drop, clarity is about perfect and the fish are on the bite. Salmonflies are just around the corner, and fish are really keyed in on the nymphs as of today. Look for adult stoneflies on the lower river in the next 3 or 4 days. < USGS CFS Streamflow data >
  • Big Hole River as of 5/16/2007 – The entire river is fishing well with good to excellent dry fly fishing being the name of the game. Caddis, Caddis, and more caddis. After all it's just after Mothers Day, and the book says something about a Mothers Day Caddis Hatch, don't it? Bigger fish have been coming on streamers and nymphs, but the action factor on top is as good as it gets. < USGS CFS Streamflow data >
  • Big Hole River as of 4/9/2007 - With the warm afternoon temps, the river is fishing well. There are a few Skwala's kicking around and we expect to see some March Browns any day. Try nymphing with smaller stone patterns and big pheasant tails for starters. Look for the fish in their winter lies, target the slower water and you should see some bent rods. Streamers have been producing some great fish on the cloudy days <USGS CFS Streamflow data>
