Over the past weekend, our salmonfly hatch on the Big Hole River has begun. At this point, most of the bugs are above Divide, with a small amount still hanging above Maidenrock. The fishing on the surface has been a little bit zone specific. Some stretches, we have had bank after bank of epic dry fly eats, and on others, it has been slow on top, but still good dropper action. Looking ahead we should start seeing Salmonflies on the Upper Madison river here pretty shortly. I’d guess another 10 days or so. The entire Big Hole is at a great flow, and the river is fishing great.
The Beaverhead has also been fishing quite well from the dam down to Pipe Organ. Small PMD nymphs, some caddis flies later in the day and we are starting to see the Yellow sallies out and about!
